SMILE project: Oral health and THR at the IMEDIC Symposium in Jakarta

Prof. Amaliya, researcher from the Indonesian branch of CoEHAR, took part in the second edition of the International Military Medicine Symposium and Workshop (IMEDIC) in Jakarta to discuss oral health and tobacco harm reduction.

The SMILE study is a research project coordinated by CoEHAR in Catania that has assessed and measured changes in oral health (appearance of teeth, gum health, onset of specific diseases, incidence of dental caries) among users of combustion-free electronic devices, comparing the results with those of traditional cigarette smokers.

The project was carried out thanks to the international collaboration of European and non-European laboratories, including one linked to Padjadjaran University in Bandung, Indonesia.

Recently, one of the researchers from Padjadjaran University, Professor Amaliya, from the Faculty of Dentistry, took part in the second edition of the International Military Medicine Symposium and Workshop (IMEDIC), held in Jakarta from October 22 to 24.

The theme of the meeting was “Fortifying Humanity: Biosafety and Biosecurity as the Cornerstones of Military Health Services”.

Prof. Amaliya participated in the panel “Strengthening Health Resilience in the Era of Global Challenges”, together with Professor Tikki Pangestu and Dr. Varella, with a presentation entitled “Integrating Health Resilience and Tobacco Harm Reduction to Advance Oral Health Outcomes: A Strategic Public Health Perspective”.

The panel was an opportunity to present data acquired through the research activities carried out within the framework of the SMILE project.

We are happy with the acceptance of Military Medicine for Tobacco Harm Reduction Strategies. Hopefully, we will work together on joint research in the near future” said Professor Amaliya.
