Smile Study: A smile to quit smoking

Smile study is a CoEHAR research project that aims to assess the impact of cigarette smoking on oral health in four different countries around the world.

Italy, October 2022- It has become impossible to not take care of the aesthetics of the mouth and oral health: the health of teeth and gums affects significantly not only the way we interact with the outside world, but also the quality of life. Smoking is one of the most important risk factors for the health of your mouth, it damages teeth and gums, compromises the whiteness of the teeth and causes tooth stains.

To better investigate the impact of cigarette smoking on oral health and the potential harm reduction derived form switching to electronic nicotine delivery systems, the Center of Excellence for the acceleration of Harm Reduction of the University of Catania, is leading the research project “Smile Study”.

The study evaluates the impact of smoking on teeth appearance and oral health parameters, comparing the data emerging from those smokers who switch to electronic nicotine delivery systems, such as electronic cigarettes and heated tobacco products.

Participating in the project is easy: applicants must be adult, smoker and, possibly, want to switch to electronic nicotine delivery systems.

The project is a unique opportunity, which will contribute to the research in the field of smoking harm reduction and will also guarantee participants to be assisted by a team of specialists, through periodic oral checkups and dental visits.
